About me

I am Fernando Garcia, a business owner and independent candidate for City Council in District 9. Originally from Los Angeles, I moved to San Diego to attend SDSU and have since built a career in financial services and real estate. As the CEO of Schools Solar, I am dedicated to promoting sustainable and clean energy solutions. Outside of work, I am an active member of various organizations, including the San Diego Association of Realtors, Represent US San Diego, the Kensington Talmadge Business Association, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In my free time, I enjoy working out at City Boxing and spending time with my wife, Cynthia, our two sons, and our beloved dog, Lulu. I am committed to improving our community, advocating for electoral reform such as Ranked Choice Voting, and volunteering with organizations that support foster youth and youth sports. Together, we can make a positive change in our district and city.

Why I'm Running

Why I'm Running

Fernando Garcia

I am running for office of City Council in District 9 as a member of the Independent party.

Occupation: Business Owner

Fun fact about me: I love to work out at City Boxing, practicing jiu jitsu and boxing. I used to play club rugby for local teams for 6 years. My wife and I have a little shitzu dog named Lulu who loves to run the house. I currently live in Kensington with my wife Cynthia, who is a San Diego County Social Worker, and I have two sons, Joshua and Alexander.

Past Experience:

I was born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in the City of Walnut (a suburb of LA County). At 18, I came to San Diego to attend SDSU where I earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice. I started my professional career in financial services where I became a Certified Financial Planner and Certified Employee Benefit Specialist. I have also worked in the real estate industry for the past 15 years as a real estate broker. I am currently CEO of Schools Solar, a company I started in 2017.

Community Involvement:

I serve in many different organizations. I am a member of the San Diego Association of Realtors and I sit on the housing opportunity committee. I am an active member with Represent US San Diego, which fights to fix our election process and stop political bribery. I am also a member of the Kensington Talmadge Business Association and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

I have volunteered with many local organizations throughout the years. I have coached Pop Warner football, AYSO soccer, and high school rugby. I have worked with foster youth as a Court Appointed Special Advocate and as a mentor for Promises 2 Kids.

Main Concern:

Fernando Garcia cares deeply about **Ranked Choice Voting - Electoral Reform**. I want to bring RCV to San Diego so people can vote for who they want without the spoiler effect.
