Issues

Increasing affordable housing options

Housing is the leading cause of inflation. We need more affordable housing to care for an aging population.

Education funding

NH uses a regressive tax system to fund public education. This means the richest communities pay the least. This leads to municipalities not want to build homes for families because they don’t want their taxes to go up.

Unpaid legislature

NH has 400 elected representatives who are not paid. This means working class and poor people are effectively shut out of the process.

About me

My name is Jonathan Kiper and I am running for Governor as an Independent candidate. As a small business owner, I understand the importance of entrepreneurship and economic growth. A fun fact about me is that I lived in Australia for several years after high school, where I had the opportunity to explore different cultures and broaden my perspectives. In addition to my entrepreneurial endeavors, I am also a published author and musician, with three books and several musical albums to my name. In terms of my past experience, I have served on the Newmarket Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Newmarket Energy and Environment Committee, and the Newmarket Town Council from 2019-2022. I have actively participated in community initiatives such as the Newmarket Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention and the Wentworth Cheswell Monument Committee. Currently, I serve on the board for the Newmarket MillSpace. During my time on the town council, I was able to make tangible changes such as allowing the consumption of alcohol on sidewalks at restaurants, implementing composting, and legalizing tiny houses. One of my primary concerns is increasing affordable housing options. Housing is the leading cause of inflation, and we need to address this issue in order to provide for our aging population and ensure a sustainable future for all.

Why I'm Running

I am running for Governor because I believe in the power of independent leadership and the importance of representing the diverse needs and perspectives of our communities. As a small business owner and a former member of the Newmarket Town Council, Zoning Board, and Energy Committee, I have a proven record of getting things done. I have fought for positive change, such as allowing alcohol consumption on sidewalks, implementing composting, and legalizing tiny houses. I have also been involved in important initiatives like combating the opioid epidemic and honoring historical figures like Wentworth Cheswell. With my experience, I understand the importance of affordable housing as a solution to the rising cost of living and the needs of our aging population. If elected, I will work tirelessly to increase affordable housing options, tackle the root causes of inflation, and ensure that all residents have access to quality housing. Together, we can build a brighter future for our state.

Past Experience

I have served on the Newmarket Zoning Board of Adjustment. The Newmarket Energy and Environment Committee and the Newmarket Town Council from 2019-2022. I also helped form the Newmarket Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention to combat the opioid epidemic, helped form the Wentworth Cheswell Monument Committee to build a statue of the first African American elected to public office in the United States and currently serve on the board for the Newmarket MillSpace. While on the town council I was able to get change an ordinance allowing alcohol to be consumed on sidewalks at restaurants, I convinced the town to implement composting, and also to legalize tiny houses.
