Fun Fact
I have a wonderful wife and 11-year-old and I love to travel! Our family is only 14 counties away from having overnighted in all 88 in Ohio. I'm a senior first-degree black belt in taekwondo, I play bass and keyboards and have for decades in various bands. I love to hike and I'm an avid gamer - I'm currently the best Pole Position player in Central Ohio!
Past Experience
I have lived in the township (Sharon Heights) since 2009 and in Columbus nearly my entire adult life. I have worked for twenty years in the college textbook business - as a manager in both retail and direct-to-consumer sales environments. Throughout my career I have specialized in tasks and responsibilities that were outside the norm. That creativity and adaptive nature is a strength I hope to carry as trustee once elected. I also am proud to represent our neighborhood, the most populated area of the unincorporated township, as we currently have no one representing us currently.
My Top Issues
Increasing affordable housing options
Our neighborhood used to be an affordable option for a nice, quiet neighborhood in North Columbus, but it's gotten so expensive that we couldn't rebuy our house if we wanted. The township (along with Worthington, Riverlea, Westerville and Columbus) need to focus on opportunities to provide affordable housing. Housing is a human right.
Proportional Representation
We need to ensure that the people who pay the taxes for our Township are the ones making the decisions and the ones holding office. We also need balance - though this is a non-partisan office, there is no representation of the progressive wing on the council (all Republicans) in a majority liberal district. We cannot cross the aisle if there is not one to cross. Township choices need township voices!
Participatory budgeting
We need to have a more transparent budget for our residents - we need to make sure we are trying to save our resources so we can better distribute our taxable income to help our community.
Who I'm Running Against
John Oberle (Republican Party)
20+ year office holder, de facto leader. Attorney, Riverlea resident (does not live in the unincorporated township).
Laura Kunze (Republican Party)
Changed to Independent Party in 2017 (year of her election). Caucases with Republicans. MBA, Realtor, Medical Care Consultant. Lifelong Worthington area resident, has lived in the township for many years.
