Who I'm Running Against
Kenyatta Calloway (Democrat Party)
Kenyata Calloway is the Onondaga County Democratic Committee endorsed candidate for Onondaga County Legislator to represent District 9. A lifelong advocate for youth and education, she brings over 30 years of experience serving her community in the Syracuse area. She entered the 2025 race following a highly unusual nomination process in which incumbent Palmer Harvey was removed from the ballot, leading Calloway and another independent candidate to vie for the seat in a traditionally Democratic district.
Bonnke Sekarore (Republican Party)
Bonnke Sekarore is a Congolese refugee turned community leader who fled genocide in Central Africa as a child and spent years in a UN refugee camp in Burundi before settling in Syracuse’s Northside. Graduating as Valedictorian from Fowler High School in 2016, he earned a degree in Industrial Management & Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and now works as an operations specialist at Wegmans Food Markets. Sekarore is the founder of the nonprofit Refugee & American Brotherhood, mentors local youth, serves on the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency’s Board. He is a registered Republican, broadly supported by the local party, and running on a platform emphasizing public safety, economic opportunity, and responsive community representation.
