Los Angeles County Assessor

Top Issues

Taxes / Budget Protecting Proposition 13. This is a great property tax system, it allows us to keep our homes in one of the most expensive markets in the world. We are the largest Assessor’s Office in the State, others follow our lead. If we do our job right, others will too, and Proposition 13 will be safe. But if we don’t , others wont as well, and we could lose Proposition 13. Taxes / Budget Increasing the Homeowners Exemption. Currently it sits at 7000. I’d like to see it increased to somewhere around 70,000 per year, maybe more. Government Reform Repealing Proposition 19 and reviving Proposition 58. Our family homes and our legacy should pass to children (or parents) without passing along an increase in taxes. Economy If the work can be done remotely, it should be done remotely. It serves multiple purposes: Saves money, cuts down on traffic, increases employee morale. It’s a win-win-win for the County. Wages / Job Benefits I strongly believe that unions are not only good for employees but for employers and society at large. I believe that County employees deserve adequate compensation come about through fair, honest and transparent bargaining . This also includes creating a psychologically safe workplace: psychological injuries in the work place are real and they are an unnecessary cost to the County. Education Education. Through various public outreach programs, I will provide the County with a thorough understanding of how Proposition 13 works, especially its change in ownership provisions. Knowledge is power, and it can also save you money down the road.
