Why I’m Running for Office

I’m running for the East Brunswick Board of Education because I know what it means to need someone to listen to you and speak up for you while you’re still finding your own voice. I was a student who struggled to communicate. I took special education classes and received speech therapy. I started at Memorial Elementary School and graduated from East Brunswick High School. East Brunswick is all I’ve ever known. Since then, I’ve been involved in community and civic advocacy, both locally and across New Jersey, working to serve people regardless of their race, religion, or background. My own experience taught me what can happen when students are given the right support and the opportunity to grow. That’s why I want to focus on student mental health, school climate, and making sure opportunities are affordable for families without unnecessarily burdening students, teachers, parents, or taxpayers. I believe that will take new ideas, creative solutions, and a vision for East Brunswick as a community where families can come, put down roots, and stay for generations.

About Me

My name is Muhammad Saqeeb, and East Brunswick is home to me. I started school at Memorial, where I was in special education and remedial classes. Years later, I graduated from East Brunswick High School in 2016 after taking honors and AP classes. That experience taught me something I still believe today: one size does not fit all. I studied psychology at Rowan University and graduated summa cum laude. I also recently earned my master’s degree in Data Science from NJIT. My education taught me to understand people and also look closely at facts and data when making decisions. I help support our family business here in East Brunswick. I have also been involved in community and civic work. I am also a proud chachu, which means uncle in Urdu. Most of all, I believe in listening. If you see me at a café, at the gym, or at a community event, I want to hear from you. I want our schools to see each student as an individual, support our teachers, listen to families, and make smart and responsible choices for our community. East Brunswick gave me the chance to grow. That experience is a big part of why I want to give back and serve our community. Thank you!
