On Thursday, August 1, 2024, voters in Murfreesboro, Tennessee will vote to elect members of their municipal and county governments. Candidates for Murfreesboro’s city council and city school board will be on the ballot, along with candidates for the Rutherford County Board of Education, Road Board, Highway Superintendent, and Property Assessor. State and federal primaries will also take place on August 1.

Four candidates are on the ballot for Murfreesboro City School Board, including independent candidate Jeanette Price. Four at-large seats are up for election, making this an uncontested election. Price is the only school board candidate who is not a current incumbent.

Price shared some of her background and inspiration for running for office with GoodParty.org.

“From childhood, I have always served my community in some capacity,” Price said. “I have passion for thriving students, teachers, and families. That is why I am running for Murfreesboro City School Board. I have had a daughter thrive in city schools. Soon, I will have a son who will be attending city schools. I want to assist in the continual growth of this amazing, special district.”

Price has a background in psychology and behavioral science, having earned a master’s degree from Cameron University. She has volunteered in the Murfreesboro community in a variety of ways, including as a leader and treasurer of a Family Readiness Group, as a Girl Scout troop leader, as a board member of Diamond Youth Development, and as vice president and president of the Parent Teacher Organization at her daughter’s elementary school.

Price shared that she is not the first person in her family to have such a strong drive for supporting local education.

“My family has a long history of being involved in education. I have several family members that have worked in school systems, from teacher’s aides to principals,” Price said. “Also, my background in behavioral health and as an invested parent will bring additional insight and perspective in what Murfreesboro City Schools will be facing in the future.”

Price said that her top focus as a school board member will be on supporting the schools’ families and faculty.

“My top priority is making sure that every child receives a successful foundation during their time in Murfreesboro City Schools and that the families, teachers, and administration are supported,” she said. “I want voters to know that as a parent, I am fully invested in the future of Murfreesboro City Schools and want this amazing school system to continue to thrive.”

Also on the ballot for Murfreesboro City School Board are incumbent chairman Butch Campbell, incumbent vice chairman Jimmy Richardson III, and incumbent David Settles.
