Tomorrow, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, voters in Surprise, Arizona will cast their ballots for one of three mayoral candidates. Alyson Cline’s and Kevin Sartor’s names will appear on the ballot, while Ed Cunningham is running for mayor as a write-in candidate. Cunningham is a non-partisan and GoodParty.org Certified candidate.

Cunningham has had a diverse range of experience that he said has prepared him to serve in office. He is a native of the West Valley area, a veteran and former firefighter, and the successful owner of a Firehouse Subs restaurant.

Cunningham first became involved in local government behind the scenes. He said that eventually, Surprise’s current mayor, Skip Hall, suggested that he run for mayor.

If elected to the mayor’s office, Cunningham said he hopes to make sure Surprise does not repeat the mistakes it has made in the past.

“The merits I bring to the table can't be touched by other candidates. I’ve been in local business, and I’m a community leader. I have a vast network of local, federal, and state level connections. I’m big into servant-style leadership. People need to have the power, not the other way around,” Cunningham said.

According to his campaign website, Cunningham’s top priorities for his time in office include transparency, water rights retention, intelligent growth, crisis preparedness, and support for the city’s first responders.
