On the Ballot: Katy Wright for City Council in Fountain Valley, CA
Katy Wright is one of four candidates on the ballot for city council in Fountain Valley, California. Two of her three opponents, Glenn Grandis and Ted Bui, are incumbent city council members.
As a GoodParty.org Certified candidate, Wright has pledged to run an independent, people-powered, and anti-corruption campaign for office. She has also committed to serving her community with integrity should she be elected on November 5, 2024.
Wright shared with GoodParty.org why she believes she is the best candidate to represent Fountain Valley.
“I've been attending city council meetings and speaking at the podium with various other citizens that are concerned about issues in town,” Wright said. “I feel like I've been acting as an advocate for citizens in the community already.”
Wright said she wants to increase the level of transparency in Fountain Valley’s local government.
One way Wright has already made progress toward this goal is by publishing clips of city council meetings to her YouTube channel. By giving Fountain Valley residents access to short, easy-to-watch clips, she is making civic engagement more accessible for people in the community.
“I care about people and I stick up for them. That's a breath of fresh air,” Wright said.
Wright said she stands out from Fountain Valley’s current city council members because of her background.
“I'm comfortable admitting I got my learning from the school of hard knocks,” Wright said. “I stand out because I've gained most of my experience through jobs I've held over the years. I've worked in a lot of different industries. I'm not a spring chicken. My longest job I had was at AT&T for 21 years. I started out as a directory assistance operator, handling 1200 calls a day. I love people. I love listening to people and I love communicating with people to a degree that the others do not.”
Currently, Wright is on the board of directors of the Dayle McIntosh Center in Orange County.
“That's an independent living center, and they support those with disabilities, the elderly, and the LGBTQ community, and they're branching out into veterans’ services,” Wright summarized. “It's natural for me to root for the underdog. I am the underdog, so I'm rooting for myself as well. I won't keep quiet. If I see something untoward happening in my presence, that's not going to fly with me.”
