Environment / Energy Boulder already limits use of bee killing pesticides on public lands. I will support Colorado HB 24-1178 which would allow Boulder to ban the sale of neonicotinoid based pesticides. Environment / Energy We need to have flood mitigation at CU south. However, there are still serious deficiencies with the current plan. Instead it seems like a hasty decision that gives CU a large area of land to develop as it wants to while not addressing the real needs of the community. Infrastructure / Transportation We have poor bike path connectivity to the 36 corridor, Lobo Path(Gunbarrel) and zero heading to Lyons or Golden. There are many areas where bikes must unsafely cross streets or bridges with little protection. I intend to find and address these areas. Infrastructure / Transportation Many people are using alternative transportation to get around. Currently the laws target a PEVs capabilities rather than behavior of the operator. I intend to propose reasonable laws regarding these devices and adherence to the 15mph speed limit on paths. Infrastructure / Transportation I've noticed many roads are falling into disrepair especially along major corridors. These roads must be repaired. Housing What I propose is a radical reprioritization. Let’s increase the percentage of affordable units developers have to build. Right now it’s 15%. Let’s start by raising it to, say, 40%. Housing Let’s face it, the demand for housing will never abate until Boulder is so built out, dense, heavily trafficked, and ugly that no new people want to move here. I’d like to cap development to a fixed number of housing units instead of allowing the revulsion of newcomers to determine what that number is, because then it’s too late. Housing I advocate a reduction in the onerous regulations governing Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) as a means to infill Boulder with more affordable homes. Right now a homeowner has to install a fire suppression system at a cost approaching 20,000 in order to qualify for an ADU license. I propose we eliminate this ridiculous regulation as a means of creating more affordable homes. Immigration Recognize that clear violations of civil rights are being conducted by our federal government through ICE by detaining and searching people without probable cause of immigration status. We must train our city staff not to participate in these clear violations of the law.
