Fun Fact
In my free time, I love wandering and discovering new corners of our city, whether it be a nature path, a bookstore, or a coffee shop.
Past Experience
I am running because I believe the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board can be a vehicle to advance climate and environmental justice. By working with the community, our park system can be an integral part of an equitable, resilient, and vibrant Minneapolis.
My background is in food and energy justice, working across Minneapolis to protect our community gardens and connect people to clean and affordable energy. I've done everything from organizing neighborhood clean-ups, to marching for Roof Depot, to advising the city on environmental issues, and I am ready to bring accountability and transformative change to the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board.
My Top Issues
Climate and Environmental Justice
Minneapolis has taken sound strides in addressing climate change, but if we really want to take on this global crisis locally, we should aim to be carbon-negative by 2050 instead of carbon-neutral. The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board is in the perfect position to lead on this by:
- Expanding solar power on park board buildings to improve energy resiliency and save money.
- Increasing the number of community gardens and collaborating with community partners to create an urban agriculture resource center.
- Growing the urban tree canopy and cleaning up our lakes.
- Prioritizing investments in and around Minneapolis' Green Zones and Cultural Districts.
Supporting Workers and Local Businesses
The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board has a budget of approximately $155 million, and if we want a vibrant and resilient Minneapolis, we need to be smart with our policies and investments. The Park Board can do this by:
- Advocating for MPRB workers, safe working conditions, and fair compensation and benefits.
- Prioritizing businesses with union workers for contracts/vendor bids.
- Expanding third spaces, activating commercial corridors and creating stronger community connections.
- Updating guidelines and procedures for food trucks and similar businesses to operate on MPRB property.
Focusing on Neighborhoods
I believe the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board's first and foremost priority should our neighborhood parks, the ones that Minneapolis residents visit most in their day-to-day lives. I plan on focusing on our neighborhoods by:
- Collaborating with neighborhood organizations and other community partners to preserve and improve public assets.
- Investing in small-but-mighty infrastructure to keep our neighborhood parks clean, accessible, and safe.
