And we will expand proven programs like the Violence Intervention Program to reduce shootings and keep kids and families safe. Education Build partnerships with trade unions and educational centers to expand apprenticeships and develop robust trade schools in critical areas like computer science, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and general contracting. Social Services Invest resources to support youth experiencing homelessness or at the brink of homelessness by strengthening coordination between the city, APS, and service providers. Housing Provide homeownership support through rent to own programs and downpayment support. Immigration Establish a legal defense fund and a network of pro-bono attorneys to support individuals unfairly targeted by the federal government, ensuring access to qualified legal representation for those who need it most. Housing Strengthen rental protections and support legal aid to help tenants fight unlivable conditions and unfair evictions. Immigration APD officers long worked aside federal partners to address local priorities like violent crime, humantrafficking, and drugtraffickers. They will not be commandeered to target people who pose no demonstrable danger to our community. Housing Create a Housing Innovation Office within the Planning Department that brings a customer-service approach to development–assisting everyone from developers to homeowners to renters to navigate funding, approvals, and requirements. Environment / Energy A Municipal Solar Authority to support the infrastructure for a city that has always grown under our sun. Infrastructure / Transportation Invest in after-school programming and the infrastructure necessary like extended transit hours so our kids have things to do in afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Immigration Form coalitions with other cities, civil rights organizations, and community organizations pursuing a humane, Constitutional, and practical approach to the failure of the federal government to provide a functional legal immigration system. Housing Build transitional housing and support through supportive residential communities that gradually increase independence over five years. Economy As Mayor, Alex will cultivate entrepreneurs, remove barriers to early success, and foster a customer-service model in City Hall that supports new growth.
