Fun Fact
My childhood experience of spending a month during the summer with my grandparents on their farm and growing up with aunts, uncles, and cousins, informs my passion for playgrounds, parks, nature and community and my "Think Global, Act Local" philosophy. My extended family taught me the value of growing a (modest) vegetable garden as well playing games and finding quiet moments. My grandparents, far from being uneducated, drove to town once a week, and we always stopped by the library to check out enough books to read over the course of a week. My grandparents knew the shop owners in town, which made shopping a shared social experience more than simply a consumer experience.
I fight to protect at-risk green spaces because I want the "City Kids" (including my own daughters) to experience a life of balance. For my family and neighbors, East River Park, community gardens and our local libraries provide daily reminders of nature and all of life's collectively learned and crucial shared lessons.
Past Experience
Over the past twenty years Allie has joined and built coalitions, participated in government processes, and introduced solutions to fight back against rezonings and public policies for which the residents never voted. Two years ago Allie ran for this City Council seat and won 40% of the vote against an incumbent; securing the best results against an incumbent in the entire city of New York. People took notice. Now, Allie is back because the district has only gotten worse. Allie symbolizes an end to the status quo of elected officials who haven’t put residents first. Who have caused Allie and many local residents around the city to crowdfund seven lawsuits and sue to stop unwanted programs such as the SoHo NoHo Rezoning, street dining Restaurant Sheds, the Congestion Pricing Tax on the working class, as well as the destruction of Elizabeth Street Garden, building of towers on Governors Island and destruction of over 1000 mature trees in East River Park for which Allie was arrested trying to prevent. She formed Friends of Tompkins Square Park to clean up after drug dealers and addicts partying.
Achievements: Formed Friends of Tompkins Square Park and cleaning up the park; Metro Area Governors Island Coalition and thwarted towers being built on green space, opposed our current councilmember's plan to destroy 1000 trees / a 60 acre 80 year old historic park; ran three times and every time secured matching funds and 40% of the vote against an unpopular incumbent; Only candidate to stand with residents and draw attention to issues that the Machine Democrats don't want talk about or resolve.
Responsibilities: Small Business Owner, Activist, Community Organizer
Skills: legislative knowledge & research, stakeholder engagement, policy analysis and research, project management, social networking, community organizing, strategic planning, event planning, media relations, writing,
My Top Issues
Prioritize safe streets
My #1 priority is to pass eBike regulation bills: Priscilla's Law to register and license eBikes and to ban eBikes in parks. We need safer streets and sidewalks. eBike riders need to take responsibility for their actions and follow the rules of the road. We will save lives when these bill become law.
Increasing affordable housing options
NYC must stop using shelters as long-term housing for the homeless. Midtown, which includes the northern end of Council District 2 (CD2) has the largest number of shelters in NYC. I will put all discretionary money towards repairing the 17 NYCHA housing developments in CD2 to free up low-income apartments.
Streamlining business licensing and permitting
A trickle down economy must be replaced by a small business economy. Pass Small Business Jobs Survival Act so storefronts can negotiate their rent. Survey job training & opportunities so residents can find work close to home.
