Housing Amanda wants to promote more affordable, and workforce housing, especially in urban core honolulu. Amanda has attended numerous meetings covering this with Land stake holders, Kamehameha School, and Transient Orientated Development. By advocating for more affordable housing, this will also address part of our homeless crisis. Housing There is a homelessness crisis in Hawai’i, and it has affected Kalihi over the years. It is affecting our working class community members. ALICE (Assets-Limited, Income-Restrained, Employed) households do not qualify for benefits because of their income, but are also not making enough to afford Hawai’i’s high cost of living. Social Services Require social service workers to monitor foster children when given permanent placement in a home, and that the parent/guardian are receiving funds or government assistance. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Create an official sexual assault intergovernmental program in Hawai’i. Specialized unit to combat human/sex trafficking, which is now prolific. Criminal Justice / Public Safety No time limit on sexual assault against a woman, child, or kapuna. It can take decades to overcome shame and fear. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Amanda wants to address crime and drugs in our community, while putting compasssionate care and safety first. She will support our authorities to expeditiously charge violent crimes and require mandatory sentencing for aggressive crimes against kapuna, and vulnerable populations. The mandatory sentencing will be inclusive with compassionate care and true rehabilitation to gain sobriety. Not just when they’re released. They can earn a clean record if it’s their first offense when they complete a sobriety program.
