Civil Rights Senator Johnson is a proud ally and fierce advocate for the LGBTQ community. She has consistently opposed discriminatory legislation targeting LGBTQ Oklahomans and believes that every person — regardless of who they love or how they identify — deserves full legal protections, equal treatment, and the freedom to live authentically. As Governor, she will fight to ensure Oklahoma is a state where no one faces discrimination in employment, housing, healthcare, or public life because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Environment / Energy Senator Johnson has been a consistent voice for exposing environmental injustice and protecting communities — particularly minority and tribal communities — from the disproportionate burden of pollution and environmental neglect. A healthy environment is a matter of equity and justice. Education Oklahoma's public schools are in crisis due to teacher shortages, neglect, culture-war politics, and failed leadership. As Governor, Connie Johnson pledges to appoint a serious State Board of Education focused on supporting public schools and teachers so children no longer pay the price for political theater. Abortion / Contraception Senator Johnson has never wavered in her defense of women's reproductive rights. Infrastructure / Transportation From roads and water to broadband access, Oklahoma's infrastructure needs serious investment. Drug Policy Long before cannabis reform was politically safe, Senator Johnson authored Oklahoma's first medical cannabis legislation in 2007. Her early work laid the groundwork for the voter-approved program that made Oklahoma one of the most robust medical cannabis markets in the nation. She continues to advocate for patients, veterans, and industry equity. Civil Rights As former Vice Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, Senator Johnson has been a tireless advocate for voter education, strategic civic engagement, and protecting the right to vote. She promotes citizen empowerment through information and organizing, particularly through her voting information and strategies presentations. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Senator Johnson has been an unapologetic opponent of the death penalty throughout her career. She chaired the campaign against SQ 776, which sought to enshrine the death penalty in the state constitution. She believes in a justice system that rehabilitates, restores, and gives people a genuine second chance. Defense / Veterans Senator Johnson has been an adamant advocate for veterans throughout her career — supporting reentry programs, mental health resources, and ensuring that those who served our country have access to the benefits and opportunities they have earned.
