Immigration As County Commissioner, Heather Buch stands with immigrant and refugee communities in Lane County. Heather voted to affirm Oregon’s Sanctuary Promise Act, making clear that Lane County will follow state law and focus local resources on local public safety. Housing Home prices keep rising, putting ownership out of reach for too many families, especially young people and seniors. As a former realtor, Heather Buch understands what’s broken. She supports cutting red tape for builders, updating land use laws, and helping smaller cities build the infrastructure needed for new homes at reasonable prices. Healthcare While DC politicians slash funding for rural healthcare, Heather Buch opened the doors to a new health clinic for our community. Heather led the effort to open the new South Lane Clinic in Cottage Grove, which has already served more than 3,800 patients with primary and dental care services close to home. Wages / Job Benefits In her first term, Heather helped lead the effort to raise the minimum wage for Lane County employees to 15 an hour. She also supports community benefit bidding to help keep public dollars working for local businesses and families. Environment / Energy Looking ahead, Heather is working to reduce landfill emissions and modernize recycling programs, cutting long-term costs for residents while protecting our environment. Criminal Justice / Public Safety As County Commissioner for East Lane County’s rural communities, Heather Buch knows we need to get back to basics. That starts with restoring funding to sheriff patrols and improving 9-1-1 response times, especially outside Eugene and Springfield. Criminal Justice / Public Safety To prepare for future disasters, Heather Buch worked with Congresswoman Val Hoyle to secure 1.1 million to replace an aging radio tower at Bear Mountain and update 100 multi-band radios for rural fire protection districts. She is also focused on improving the County’s electronic alert systems in our forests. Environment / Energy In Lane County, access to our state’s natural beauty is central to our quality of life. Heather Buch is working to protect our environment, guard against natural disasters and polluters, and grow a clean energy economy that works for local families. Education As a small business owner herself, Heather knows that economic growth and education go hand in hand. Too many employers struggle to find workers with the right skills. That’s why she is working with local schools, Lane Community College, and the University of Oregon to expand hands-on training programs that prepare students for good local jobs.
