Criminal Justice / Public Safety While discussions about regionalizing our fire service continues, we can’t afford to wait to make improvements. The City of Sparks needs to increase fire staffing now - not someday. Lives and property depend on it. Economy A vibrant downtown is essential to the future of Sparks. It’s where our community gathers, where local businesses thrive, and where our city shows its identity. Supporting downtown means supporting the events and partners that make it a destination. Economy Sparks has an opportunity to become a true regional hub for film production. By keeping permit fees low, supporting local filmmakers, and showcasing our city’s unique locations, we can attract more productions and grow a thriving creative economy. Government Reform As key executives retire or resign, the City of Sparks must review and audit their contracts to ensure compensation aligns with the needs and priorities of the community. Executive pay should reflect public service, not private-sector excess. Arts / Culture Sparks has world-class assets like the Sparks Marina and Golden Eagle Regional Park - and it’s time we put them to even greater use. Attracting more special events, festivals, and sports tournaments will bring visitors, support local businesses, and strengthen our regional economy. Infrastructure / Transportation Strategic electrification of certain vehicles in the City of Sparks fleet isn’t just good for the environment - it’s good for taxpayers. Electric vehicles can dramatically reduce fuel costs and cut long-term maintenance expenses, saving money year after year. Government Reform The City of Sparks needs to prioritize hiring a dedicated risk manager and return to a traditional, accountable risk-management model. In recent years, constant lawsuits and repeated settlements have driven our insurance premiums higher and exposed the city to avoidable financial risk. Economy The City of Sparks and the broader region need to continue diversifying our economy and moving away from a tourist-first model. Tourism will always be a part of our identity, but it can’t be the foundation of our long-term stability. Criminal Justice / Public Safety The Drone as a First Responder program has proven to be a success in Sparks. Drones are helping first responders reach scenes faster, assess situations more safely, and make better-informed decisions before units even arrive. It’s time to build on that success. Expanding drone coverage to more parts of the city means faster response times, improved situational awareness, and more positive outcomes for both first responders and residents of Sparks and Ward 2. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Technology like ShotSpotter and Flock Safety cameras can support public safety, but only if they’re used responsibly, audited regularly, and governed by strong policies that prevent misuse. The ACLU has raised legitimate concerns about how this data can be abused or shared beyond its intended purpose, which is why transparency, strict access limits, and clear oversight are essential. Taxes / Budget The proposed Sparks Fire First Responder Fee has raised understandable concerns, and I want to be clear about where I stand. I support the fee IF and ONLY IF Sparks residents are not billed for any remaining balance after insurance. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Anyone legitimately investing in crypto can do so safely without ever touching one of these machines. Crypto ATMs come with high fees, low protections, and no real public benefit. What they do offer is convenience for scammers - and financial harm for Nevadans. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Public safety begins with having enough officers to respond when and where they’re needed. Right now, there are times when fewer than five officers are tasked with covering the entire City of Sparks. That’s not just unacceptable - it’s unsafe for both our community and our officers.
