James Freeman

Environment / Energy Freeman has been a vocal leader in Idaho Falls Power and its mission to provide low, stable electricity rates to residents. As an Idaho Falls Power Board Member, he has supported investments in new technologies, including a natural gas peaking plant, to ensure greater energy independence and reduce reliance on the volatile power marketplace—helping keep energy affordable and secure for the long term. Criminal Justice / Public Safety These investments and collaborative efforts with law enforcement have contributed to a notable reduction in crime, helping ensure that Idaho Falls remains one of the safest cities in the state. Infrastructure / Transportation From the renovation of Funland to the addition of a new splash pad at Reinhart Park, development of Heritage Park, growth of the award-winning War Bonnet Rodeo, and infrastructure updates like dehumidifiers at the aquatic center, Freeman has prioritized recreational spaces that serve all ages. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Under Freeman’s leadership, Idaho Falls has made significant investments in public safety, including the construction of a new Law Enforcement Complex, fire training facility, a new southern fire station, and upgrades to police equipment—ensuring officers and first responders have the tools they need to protect the community. Infrastructure / Transportation As Board Chair of Greater Idaho Falls Transit (GIFT), Freeman has supported the growth of GIFT On-Demand, a modern public transportation system that expands mobility options for residents while reducing traffic and environmental impacts. Environment / Energy A strong advocate for responsible stewardship, Freeman continues to champion initiatives that protect Idaho Falls’ natural landscapes and waterways for future generations. Infrastructure / Transportation With a sharp focus on connectivity and economic development, Freeman has championed improvements to the Idaho Falls Regional Airport, leading to increased flight options and major facility renovations that better serve travelers.
