Education Focus on efforts to promote literacy. Assist schools using city parks and partnerships with community centers for after school and summer programming. Education Build on the work of the Wilmington Learning Collaborative. Make sure after school opportunities and programming are high-quality and available for all city children. Economy As Mayor, John will create safe and clean neighborhoods, support city public schools, protect taxpayer dollars, prioritize small businesses, and make the City of Wilmington an even better place to live. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Work with the State of Delaware and the Wilmington Police Department to stop the group and gang violence. Create clean and safe committees in neighborhoods. Work with City agencies to clean up litter and trash. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Encourage neighborhood watch programs. Work to expand Downtown Visions to ensure all residents and visitors feel welcome and safe in Downtown Wilmington. Housing Focus on eliminating vacant and problem properties in neighborhoods. Expand affordable housing programs for all individuals and families, from subsidized rental to homeownership. Guns Address gun violence in our communities. Wages / Job Benefits Increase opportunities to promote women and minority-owned businesses. Continue efforts to make Wilmington a top place for businesses to start, relocate to, and grow. Wages / Job Benefits Promote job training programs for City residents to gain skills that could provide opportunities for better employment. Support small businesses across the City.
