Criminal Justice / Public Safety Peace officers are to serve and protect Thornton citizens -- never to serve as ‘military’ backup for I.C.E. Or other non-Thornton concerns. Peace officers should not be militarized or prepared to battle their own citizenry when less combative paths exist to enforce the safety and security of the city and its population. Infrastructure / Transportation I will champion the bolstering of such Commons while helping to assure an equitable budget and funds distribution among them all to further assure civic, environmental, and community health within and throughout the City of Thornton. Infrastructure / Transportation City Council should assess whether there is excessive profiteering from infrastructure expenses and the loan/bond rates that apply to them, and help prevent developers from passing-on excessive expenses/costs in the form of bonds that are left behind by the developer for the homeowners/taxpayers to pay through their tax assessments each year. The over-privatization created by the Metro District concept (public-private “partnership”) should be balanced out and made more equitable for the Homeowner. Housing I will support small businesses over large corporations and I will support homeowners and the rent-oppressed over tax avoiders and opportunists taking advantage of the system for their own benefit the benefit of their bottom lines. Criminal Justice / Public Safety I will defend the expansion of social services and mental enhancement resources over exorbitant budgets for law enforcement or an increase in jails. Environment / Energy A steadfast transition to renewable energy and energy conservation including strong advocacy of solar panel installation, insulating older homes, making use of programs such as GRID Alternatives, Home Energy Squad, and other third parties researched and vetted by the city for citizens’ use, are all paramount issues I prioritize, advocate and support. We will not survive as a species if we do not adjust our trajectory going forward.
