Michael French

Leeds City Mayor

Top Issues

Government Reform In a time when national conversations around diversity and inclusion are often divisive, Michael will lead with a unifying approach. He believes Leeds can be a model of how diverse voices, backgrounds, and cultures can work together to strengthen community identity and trust. Through town halls, inclusive advisory groups, and civic engagement efforts, Michael will ensure every resident feels heard and seen. Infrastructure / Transportation Leeds deserves vibrant public spaces that bring people together and improve quality of life. Michael’s administration will explore and develop new amenities such as a world-class event venue, expanded restaurant and entertainment districts, sports and recreation facilities, walking tracks, green spaces, and dog parks. These efforts will not only serve residents but position Leeds as a regional destination. Arts / Culture Leeds has produced champions in sports, veterans of distinction, leaders in faith, and innovators in business. As mayor, Michael will launch a Leeds Hometown Heroes initiative to publicly recognize individuals from these fields in ways that inspire civic pride, attract tourism, and boost local economic activity. This may include street banners, commemorative plaques, city-hosted celebrations, and digital spotlights — all celebrating those who have helped put Leeds on the map. Education Michael believes that a strong educational system is the cornerstone of a successful city. As mayor, he will partner with the Leeds Board of Education, administrators, and parents to ensure our children receive a first-class education. This includes advocating for resources, supporting school safety initiatives, and creating mentorship pipelines between local businesses and students to prepare the next generation of leaders. Economy Michael will pursue economic growth through intentional recruitment of businesses, strengthening partnerships with industry leaders, and supporting homegrown entrepreneurs. His vision includes maintaining a business-friendly environment that invites construction and development while upholding high standards of safety, beauty, and livability. Leeds can become a magnet for investment — a city where people want to live, work, and build.
