Social Services We should view access to utilities as a public good. That when someone’s access to water, electricity, gas, or other utility is assured that this will lead to them being productive members of the community. Towards this end utilities shouldn’t be a bill you pay, they should be part of your tax code. Economy Ideally incentives and infrastructure should be created to empower more workers to spend local as well. Economy A dollar spent with Amazon is lost to the community, while a dollar spent locally enriches local workers, does more work in the local economy, and contributes to pay for local taxes. Infrastructure / Transportation We need a 10 year plan aimed at beautiful, medium sized public housing buildings with spaces designed around encouraging community and walkable neighborhoods. Housing It should be our priority to rapidly grow our affordable housing market through the usage of public housing aimed at addressing our immediate needs. Housing The city has answered homelessness with hard edged, inflexible policy that is aimed to alievate the fears of businesses over good, solid policy aimed at ending homelessness. These policies are ultimately costly to the city. Chasing around homeless individuals over housing them is just increasing our costs without solving the problem. Immigration It will be crucial for us to do some reorgnization to deal with the potential risks of ICE, change our legal code to inoculate the city against legal violence which will be leveraged against our citizens, and build up local codes to make it harder for ICE to operate with impunity. Wages / Job Benefits I support universal unionization with a city funded union with basic asks for all workers, such as a living wage.
