Healthcare As a Senator, Nick will build on his track record of creating innovative behavioral health programs and will work to bolster opioid prevention and treatment programs, improving mental health services (especially for children), reducing maternal mortality, and refocus our public health on health-related social needs. Taxes / Budget Nick will also work to lower taxes for working families by requiring billionaires to pay their fair share. Education Being a father himself, Nick’s agenda centers on improving outcomes for children and families. Policies include expanding early childhood education and childcare assistance, promoting adoption and foster care support, working for universally accessible school meals, and strengthening programs that help parents balance work and caregiving responsibilities. The overarching aim is healthier, more stable family environments. Wages / Job Benefits Nick will help working families achieve financial stability. Key proposals include doubling the Earned Income Tax Credit, raising the minimum wage, promoting equal pay, and creating paid family leave policies for both public and private workers. Nick will work to boost household income, reduce inequality, and strengthen the workforce. Healthcare Nick believes that we should build on Medicaid expansion so that we can achieve healthcare for all, we should support keeping rural hospitals open not cut them, and focus on lowering prescription drug costs. Nick will stand-up against any effort to cut Medicare for Louisiana seniors. He'll support efforts to lower prescription drug prices including allowing Medicare to negotiate pricing with pharmaceutical companies. Government Reform In the Senate Nick will stand-up for us by working to expose corruption and abuse in government. Nick also stands firmly against stock trading by members of Congress and will introduce legislation to completely ban this practice. Healthcare Nick is committed to expanding access to healthcare and strengthening the system that delivers it. Nick’s first action in the Senate will be to introduce a bill that reverses the 1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid passed by the current Congress.
