Top Issues

Government Reform There is important institutional knowledge about things like planning and zoning, roads and bridges, and water rights that must be retained. We also need commissioners who are looking to the future to understand the ways that new technology, such as AI and datacenters, could either help or hurt Montezuma County. We must have a board that is equipped to play offense instead of allowing our county to fall behind. Economy We need to strengthen our local economy by welcoming industry and exploring all means of revenue creation. Focusing on growing existing sources of revenue, thinking creatively about the future and preparing for new opportunities will increase our resilience and enable us to meet the evolving needs of our constituents. Investing in the key institutions of our county- organizations like our schools, hospital and public safety – by creating infrastructure that supports them is crucial to this priority. Social Services Childcare in Montezuma County is not only expensive, but there also aren’t enough spaces available to meet the needs of working parents. Current times require commissioners who are raising children now, who understand the current challenges faced by working parents and care providers alike. Local elected officials must pursue all the options available when it comes to bringing affordable and accessible childcare to our county. Housing In Montezuma County our lack of affordable housing is not only holding back our residents, who are increasingly unable to afford to live here, but it is also holding back our economy. We cannot fuel our businesses if we don’t have workforce housing. We need a board that is motivated to adequately educate and collaborate with its partners on money that is available for these projects.
