Past Experience

Hi, I’m Rick McCabe. I'm running for mayor. I'm a different kind of candidate. I'm a political independent, free from the party and partisan issues that are causing such problems on the City Council. My loyalty is to the community. My dad is a retired Rye police officer. My wife and I both grew up in Rye and we’re raising our kids here. I’m running to give back to this wonderful community that’s done so much for my family and me. I've had a successful corporate career, but what I think is more relevant is that I’m a passionate and effective local volunteer. Currently, I’m Chair of the City's Recreation Commission. On the Commission, I've proposed a number of major improvements that have become reality. I also have a knack for getting consensus across the Commission. This is exactly what our City Council needs in order to shift its focus from fighting each other to serving you, and every other resident. But enough about me. I’d love to hear what you’d like from our local government…..

My Top Issues

Balance development with neighborhood preservation

An updated Comprehensive Plan will help Rye balance sustainable development with neighborhood preservation. My opponents called this a top priority they ran LAST time, and they're saying the same thing now - but in 2024, they voted to scrap all the progress the Council made before COVID and begin again, by searching for a new consultant, squandering the money taxpayers spent on the pre-COVID consultant search, and delaying the process by years. If I'm elected mayor, I'll encourage timely action, just as I do as Rec Commisson Chair.

Abolish Duopoly

Move Rye to a non-party system for local elections

Positive partnership with Rye's nonprofits.

Our nonprofits are a big part of what makes Rye such a great place to live. They provide us with everything from the arts to an enhanced sports field that the city could never afford on its own, to a beloved home for many of Rye's seniors. Yet when a nonprofit come to the City Council for project approval, my opponents drag their heels. Since they've been on the Council, project approval for Rye's nonprofits has been delayed by months or even years. We owe our valuable nonprofits - and the community - thoughtful but timely decisions. I'll make this approach a priority if I'm elected mayor.

Who I'm Running Against

Josh Nathan (Democrat Party)

Current member of Rye City Council. Democrat and member of local Democratic Committee. Lawyer with small one-man firm. Former president of Rye School Board where he was literally hated https://myrye.com/2008/10/rye-teachers-in/. On the City Council, he is a major contributor the the Council's infighting.

Bill Henderson. (Republican Party)

Current member of Rye City Council. Retired lawyer and forensic accountant. Member of local country club. On the City Council, he is a major contributor the the Council's infighting.
