Fun Fact

I get around almost entirely by bike or public transit (yes, it’s possible in Georgia). I even host a free weekly community ride called Marietta Bike Social to help more people discover how fun and practical biking can be.

Past Experience

I’m Sam Foster, a systems engineer and community advocate running for Mayor because I believe Marietta should work for everyone. I come from a working-class family. My dad worked for MARTA and my mom worked for the state of Georgia. They showed me what it means to work hard, care about others, and take pride in making things better. When I came to Marietta for college, I quickly saw how expensive housing was and how unsafe it felt to get around without a car. I reached out to city leaders about missing sidewalks, but nothing happened. So I started showing up at meetings and inviting neighbors to do the same. I went on to co-found A Better Cobb, a nonprofit focused on safer streets, reliable transit, and affordable homes. I also launched Marietta Bike Social, a free weekly community ride that brings people together and makes our city friendlier and more connected. As a systems engineer, I solve complex problems and make things run smoothly. That’s how I approach city government too: listen to people, fix what’s broken, and keep things working for everyone. Marietta has endless potential, but we need leadership that listens and acts for regular people.

My Top Issues

Prioritize safe streets

Everyone should feel safe moving around, whether they walk, bike, or drive. I’ll work to slow traffic in neighborhoods, add crosswalks, fix dangerous intersections, and close sidewalk gaps that put people at risk. We can stop crashes before they happen with better design and common-sense improvements that save lives. Safety shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code. Every part of Marietta deserves safe, fair streets.

Increasing affordable housing options

Whether you rent or own, you should be able to find a home in Marietta that fits your budget. I’ll back zoning updates that allow more housing choices and promote inclusionary zoning so working families can live near jobs, schools, and transit. We can turn vacant lots and empty parking areas into new homes and neighborhood spaces that bring life back to our city. If you work in Marietta, you should be able to live here too. That’s how we keep families together and build a stronger community.

Expanding public transportation options

Traffic won’t fix itself. The only real way to reduce congestion is to expand public transit and give people more ways to get around. I’ll push for reliable buses, safe sidewalks, and connected bike routes that make short trips easy without a car. By focusing growth near jobs, schools, and shops, we can help people spend less time in traffic and more time living their lives. This is about building a city that moves people efficiently, safely, and affordably.
