Housing We can attract new housing options to promote a more walkable community. That means housing that’s close to Amtrak for commuters, plus for employees who work in the business park and the County offices. Well-developed plans like this strengthen our neighborhoods and add value to existing homes while creating new ownership opportunities for others. Criminal Justice / Public Safety I’ll also push for continued partnerships with youth – like the Leaven and PAL Programs – and for studying Real Time Crime Centers (RTCC) that allow Community Service Officers to assist Police officers better in identifying crime in progress. Housing The issues surrounding homelessness have only gotten worse, and the solutions seem farther away, but they don’t have to be. We need a fresh plan that gets help to those who want it while getting those who just cause havoc off the streets – and we need to do it without breaking the bank. I’ll work on a City and County Task Force that brings the homeless population in front of existing services that can end the cycle. Our hands are often tied by state and federal rules, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be innovators. Economy There are too many vacant lots in downtown Fairfield that are underused and blighted – but thanks to the Heart of Fairfield plan, we finally have an opportunity to fix that. Criminal Justice / Public Safety We’re lucky that we have a home-grown, neighborhood-driven police department serving us. The single best way to help them help us is to keep building relationships with our neighborhood officers, so they get to know us, and we get to know them.
