Criminal Justice / Public Safety Other public safety initiatives spearheaded by Councilmember Shropshire include the Street Racing Ordinance, to stop street racing in East Point, and the installation of cameras in the park, to address tagging, graffiti, and other nuisance crimes while deterring criminal activity. Social Services Councilmember Shropshire will create “Senior Connection” to expand the network among senior citizens throughout metropolitan She will capitalize on relationships with elected officials in other jurisdictions to collaborate on senior initiatives and learn about activities East Point seniors can participate in. Economy Councilmember Shropshire is planning to host a “Developers’ Tour,” in which local developers will learn about development opportunities in East Point. The tour will culminate with lunch and presentations by government officials. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Councilmember Shropshire also hosted a self-defense and active shooter training for seniors, and partnered with JenCare Senior Medical Center to administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to them. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Working in collaboration with the East Point Police Department, Councilmember Shropshire is planning to host educational seminars to reduce incidents of crime against seniors who are often victims of frauds and scams. Criminal Justice / Public Safety A proponent of community policing, Councilmember Shropshire sponsored a public private partnership that allows police officers to live in a high crime apartment complex rent free to help reduce criminal activity.
