Education We must support Calaveras Unified School District by working with local, state, and federal partners to improve the financial condition of CUSD. The county has a responsibility to address the safety and accessibility of our schools by improving traffic safety and walkability around our local schools. Education We must develop a ground up approach to workforce development. It starts in the local schools. We must provide the necessary foundation for our kids. Economy Encourage economic development that fits the character and needs of Calaveras County focusing on land management, resource conservation, recreational tourism, workforce development, vocational education and the creation of value added opportunities in our agricultural sector to help build a resilient and robust local economy. Economy Conservation and management of resource production lands is an essential element of local economic development. Infrastructure / Transportation I support the completion of Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail, the creation of a parks and recreation department, and a countywide park plan to help access grant funding and support our community parks and recreational opportunities. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Maintaining and improving local infrastructure, roads and telecommunications, to ensure access to emergency services; implementing the Evacuation Preparedness and Emergency Services Access Plan; supporting first responders and emergency service providers; coordinating with our partners through the Office of Emergency Services to meet our community’s public safety needs. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Prioritize public safety with a comprehensive approach to address the issue. Develop Wildfire Protection Plans with every community. Adopt, implement and secure funding for the over 200 road improvement projects identified in the Evacuation Preparedness Plan. Criminal Justice / Public Safety We must adopt a comprehensive approach to address fire safety. We must address fire safety in local planning and land use policy, in local economic and workforce development, in our housing policies and home construction, in local resource management and land conservation, by supporting our local Fire Districts, and working with our partners at the local, state and federal levels to comprehensively address local fire safety building a resilient fire smart community. Criminal Justice / Public Safety We must address the longstanding recruitment and retention problems in our local Fire Districts and in our Sheriff’s Department. We have to take a holistic approach to address the many factors driving the retention problem. In addition to developing revenue sources to improve compensation, we must address housing, education, and local amenities to improve quality of living, attract and retain young working families dedicated to careers in public safety. Criminal Justice / Public Safety We must support our local law enforcement by supporting the Sheriff’s Department working with state and federal partners, securing funding through a Law Enforcement Impact Fee, addressing recruitment and retention, and expanding community policing efforts. Government Reform I believe Supervisors’ compensation should not exceed the median income of their constituents. Government Reform I support the retention and disclosure of all public records under the Public Records Act and strict adherence to the open meeting requirements of the Brown Act. Housing We must encourage the construction of workforce housing to support county employees and young working families. We must continue to support and expand the County administered HOME Investment Partnerships program which provides funds to first time homebuyers. Arts / Culture Maintain the unique and historical character of our local communities while providing the services we need and creating opportunities for local families and businesses.
