Environment / Energy If we increase our use of renewable energy, we can reduce our impact on the environment while lowering energy costs and creating jobs. That's why we passed bills to reach 100% renewable energy by 2050 and to train workers in those fields. And while we're still reliant on energy from privately owned utilities, we passed bills to hold them accountable and ensure Mainers are paying fair rates. Education Nationwide, researchers say the EITC lifts more children from poverty than any other federal program. Children in families that receive an EITC are healthier and do better in school. In addition, the program reduces the need for public assistance and promotes wage growth for women. Taxes / Budget Taxes support our public schools, allow for repairs to our roads and bridges, provide emergency response systems that keep us safe and so much more. We need taxes, but we also need to make sure our tax system is fair. Economy Beyond supporting our workers, we also invested in our future workforce, taking steps to better train the next generation, helping adults finish their education and easing the licensing measures and other barriers that prevent many from starting and advancing in their careers. It is so important that we support our industries and each other. Guns There is more to do, such as passage of a true “red flag” or extreme risk order bill in Maine, as well as measures to curtail “ghost” guns and rapid fire modification devices. As I approach my fourth and final term in the Maine House, I remain committed to this work because I know it saves lives. I agree with the many Mainers across our state who have reached out to say that we can respect constitutional rights, honor our tradition of hunting and shooting sports, yet still craft policy that reduces gun violence in Maine. Government Reform Big money does not belong in our elections. That’s why I am a Clean Elections Candidate, and why I support election reforms that prohibit the undue influence of lobbyists, companies and organizations. Healthcare Every Mainer deserves access to affordable health care. Comprehensive care should not be limited by age, gender, pre-existing conditions or income. That's why the Legislature took steps this session to expand insurance options and provide better support for our hospitals and health care workers.
