Who I'm Running Against
Rob Andrews (Democrat Party)
Rob Andrews is a dedicated public servant and advocate with extensive experience serving on public and nonprofit boards and commissions. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Hastings College, the Denver County Workforce Development Board, the Colorado Workforce Development Board, and the Colorado Judicial Performance Commission. In the past, he has contributed to numerous organizations, including the Amazing Women Center, Denver Workforce Investment Board, Armed Services YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, El Pomar Foundation Black Advisory Council, Colorado Springs Pride Center, and the RTD Affordable Fares Task Force. His work demonstrates a strong commitment to community development, workforce advancement, and public service.
Danielle Jurisnky (Republican Party)
Danielle Jurinsky, currently serving as an at-large member of the Aurora City Council, has been a vocal figure in local politics, often making headlines for her controversial statements and actions.
In contrast, I, Watson Gomes, offer a different vision for Aurora—one rooted in education, community engagement, and independent leadership. With a Juris Doctor degree and a Master's in International Relations, I bring a well-rounded perspective to the table. My experience includes teaching at the Community College of Aurora and serving as a high school instructor, where I focus on social studies and financial literacy.
Watson for Aurora
Unlike Jurinsky, who has been associated with partisan rhetoric and divisive politics, I am committed to bridging divides and fostering collaboration among all residents. I believe in empowering the community, not catering to special interest groups.
Aurora deserves leadership that listens, understands, and acts with integrity. I am dedicated to serving all Aurorean, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued.
Alexandra Jackson (Democrat Party)
Alli is a lifelong advocate for opportunity and equity in Aurora. The daughter of a Black veteran and an immigrant mother who moved to Aurora in 1975 to build a better life for their five children, Alli grew up understanding the value of hard work and community. She is running for office to ensure that today’s families in Aurora have access to the same opportunities that shaped her life, focusing on equity, inclusion, and support for working families.
Ansalu Kassaw (Republican Party)
Amsalu Kassaw, currently serving on the Aurora City Council, holds a position with GEO Group, the private company operating the ICE detention facility in Aurora. He has publicly expressed pride in his work there, despite the facility's history of human rights concerns, including allegations of inadequate medical care and detainee deaths. His association with this facility raises questions about his commitment to community values and transparency.
In contrast, I, Watson Gomes, am running as an independent candidate dedicated to serving the people of Aurora. With a background in law and international relations, I bring a fresh perspective focused on affordable housing, public safety, and creating opportunities for all residents. I am committed to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that every voice in Aurora is heard and valued.
Aurora deserves leadership that prioritizes its residents over private interests. I am ready to serve with integrity and dedication.
