The County Legislature or Executive Board is the governing body of the county and exercises broad policy-making authority. The Board is charged with implementing policy and overseeing the county budget process and allocation.
Board member candidates must be of good moral character, a high school graduate or equivalent, a registered voter, and be a resident of the county which the candidate seeks to represent 1 year prior to election. Must not be on the governing board of a private elementary or secondary school, not be on the state or national Sex Offender Registry, not be a convicted felon. Must satisfy certain employment restrictions – County board members may not be system employees unless seated on the board on or before April 20, 2012.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee of 2% of the base salary for the office (Major Party candidates only). Petition signature requirement of 3% of voters who cast ballots for governor in the last general election in the district (Independent and Minor Party candidates only).
