Eligibility Requirements

18 years old, state resident for 1 year, US citizen for 1 day, registered voter, licensed to practice law in Alabama, resided in the district which candidate seeks to represent for one year prior to election.

Filing Requirements

Filing fee is 2% of the salary for the first year of the new term; signature requirement (independent and minor party candidates only) of 3% of the number of votes cast in the district for the office of governor in the last general election.

Paperwork Instructions

Submit paperwork to the Alabama Secretary of State's office. Major party candidates must also qualify with their respective state party organization.
