How to run for District Attorney

Meet eligibility requirements
18 years old, state resident for 1 year, US citizen for 1 day, registered voter, licensed to practice law in Alabama, resided in the district which candidate seeks to represent for one year prior to election.

File for office
- Filing requirements
- Filing fee is 2% of the salary for the first year of the new term; signature requirement (independent and minor party candidates only) of 3% of the number of votes cast in the district for the office of governor in the last general election.
- Paperwork instructions
- Submit paperwork to the Alabama Secretary of State's office. Major party candidates must also qualify with their respective state party organization.
