State Representatives are members of the state's lower chamber, as part of the state's bicameral legislature. State representatives are responsible for voting on: bills related to public policy matters, levels for state spending, raises or decreases in taxes, and whether to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.
A candidate must be 21 years of age at the time of their election, and must have been citizens of Alabama for 3 years, having lived in their respective districts for at least 1 year immediately preceding their election.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $1931; signature requirement (independent and minor party candidates only) of 3% of the number of votes cast in the district for the office of governor in the last general election.

Submit paperwork to the Alabama Secretary of State's office. Major party candidates must also qualify with their respective state party organization.
