How to run for State Supreme Court Chief Justice
- Step 1
Meet eligibility requirements
Candidates must be a registed elector of the state and be licensed to practice law in Alabama. No one may be elected or appointed to a judicial office after reaching the age of 70. Must have been licensed by the Alabama State Bar Association a combined total of 10 years or more, or by any other state bar association for a combined total of 10 years or more, prior to beginning a term of office or appointment to serve a vacant term of office. Must not have been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment in the state or federal penitentiary.

- Filing requirements
- Filing Fee (Major party candidates only): 2% of the annual salary for the office. Petition Signature Requirements (independent and minor party candidates only): 3% of the number of votes cast in the district for the office of governor in the last general election.
