The U.S. Senate is one of two chambers of the federal legislature. Senators are responsible for writing and passing legislation, approving presidential appointments, and ratifying treaties with foreign countries.
Senator must be at least thirty years, have been a citizen of the United States for at least nine years, and must be an inhabitant of the state they seek to represent.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $3,480; signature requirement (independent and minor party candidates only) of 3% of the number of votes cast in the district for the office of governor in the last general election.
Paperwork Instructions
Submit paperwork to the Alabama Secretary of State's office. Major party candidates must also qualify with their respective state party organization.
