Eligibility Requirements

Must be minimum 18 years old, a state resident for 1 day, a US citizen for 1 day, and a registered voter. Also, candidates must be a qualified elector of the county and may not hold other office while serving as commissioner.

Filing Requirements

Candidates may either seek nomination by their respective political party or they may attempt to run as an independent candidate. Candidates seeking to represent a major party (defined as those parties which received more than 20% of the vote in the previous general election) need only submit a completed declaration of candidacy (found on their respective party website) and a filing fee of $1784.7. Independent and minor-party candidates do not pay the filing fee but must instead circulate a ballot access petition and receive a number of signatures equal to 3% of the number of valid electors of the state who participated in the previous gubernatorial race. Regardless of party affiliation, all candidates must complete and file "Statement of Economic Interest" and "Appointment of Principal Campaign Committee" forms either alongside their other requirements or within 5 days.
