The High Bailiff assumes the duties of the County Sheriff if they are deemed unfit or in the event of a vacancy. If necessary, they may also carry out the arrest of the Sheriff. They are rarely asked to perform either of these duties.
Must possess qualifications of an elector. Must be a U.S. citizen, must be an Arkansas resident, and must reside within township, justice of the peace district, or county to be represented. Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age. Must be lawfully registered to vote. Must never have been convicted of embezzlement of public money, bribery, forgery, or other infamous crime.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is set by the party county committee (party candidates). Petition signature requirements for independent candidates: 3% of the qualified electors in the county or township in which the candidate seeks office, based upon the total number of votes cast for Governor in that county or township at the last election, but in no event shall more than 2,000 signatures be required.
