The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
A candidate must be a qualified elector of the Cityat the time offiling the nomination paper. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be a city resident for one year prior to the election or be a residentof a newly annexed area for one year prior to the election. Must be able to speak, write and read the English language. If there have been any prior convictions for treason or a felony, musthave all civil rights restored in accordance with law. Cannot be adjudicated as an "incapacitated person" or be underguardianship. Cannot be a member of the State Legislature. Cannot be an employee of the State of Arizona under jurisdiction of thestate personnel system. Cannot be a holder of certain public offices due to incompatibility ofoffice. Cannot be a holder of another salaried elective office except during thefinal year of the term being served.
Filing Requirements
No filing fee; signature requirement of at least 5% and not more than 10% of the voters in the city.
