Eligibility Requirements

At least 18 years of age; a registered voter and resident of the district and trustee area, if any, of the office sought; a citizen of the state of California

Filing Requirements

No filing fee. Petition signature requirement is 20-40 (or 10-20 if filing in a county or district with fewer than 150 voters; if filing via petition in lieu of fee in a county or district with 2000 voters or more: three signatures of registered voters for each dollar of the filing fee, or 7 percent of the total of registered voters in the district in which he or she seeks nomination; if filing via petition in lieu of fee in a county or district with fewer than 2000 voters: three signatures of registered voters for each dollar of the filing fee, or 14 percent of the total of registered voters in the district in which he or she seeks nomination, whichever is less)
