The County Sheriff is the chief law enforcement official of the county and is responsible for ensuring that all local, state, and federal laws are followed.
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, registered elector, have been a resident of the county for at least 1 year prior to the election, and have a high school diploma or equivalent or a college degree.
Filing Requirements
No filing fee. Petition signature requirements: at least 20% of the votes cast in the previous primary election for that office. If there was no primary, 20% of the votes cast at most recent General Election where there was a candidate for that office (Major party candidates); 750 or 2% of the votes cast, whichever is less for all candidates for that office in the most recent General Election (Minor party and unaffiliated candidates).
