The Registrar of Voters is responsible for the administration of all local, state and national elections; the registration of all eligible voters; and the conduct of primaries and referendums.
Each registrar of voters shall reside in the municipality for which the registrar of voters is elected. You must be at least eighteen years old and shall reside in the municipality from which you are elected. Party candidates must be registered with said party.
Filing Requirements
No Filing Fee. Major party candidates must be nominated by their respective party to appear on ballot (Party Endorsement). Any such candidacy shall be filed by filing with the registrar within the applicable time specified in section 9-405 a petition signed by (1) at least five per cent of the electors whose names appear upon the last-completed enrollment list of such party in such municipality or in such political subdivision, senatorial district or assembly district, or (2) such lesser number of such electors as such party by its rules prescribes, as the case may be (Party Petition). For Third party or Independent Candidacies each petition shall be signed by a number of qualified electors equal to the lesser of (1) One percent of the votes cast for the same office(s) at the last preceding election, or (2) seven thousand five hundred. In regards to newly-created offices, the number of qualified electors is prescribed in ยง 9-380.
