The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
Each candidate for the office of City council shall be a registered voter in the State of Florida and a resident of the City. At the time of qualification, each candidate for mayor or a council seat shall have maintained his or her domicile within the bounaries of the City for a period of one year before qualifying and, if elected, shall maintain such residency throughout his or her term of office.
