The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.
Any qualified elector of the City of Longwood, Florida, who has been a resident of the city for a period of one (1) year next preceding date of qualification, is registered to vote in City election at the time of qualification, and has resided at the time of qualification in the commission district for which he or she qualifies for six (6) months prior to qualification, and who is otherwise qualified to be a member of the City Commission may be a candidate for election to the City Commission.
Filing Requirements
A non-refundable qualifying fee equal to five (5) per cent of the annual compensation shall be required of each candidate, or, if such candidate is unable to pay the qualifying fee, then the candidate shall be required to qualify in accordance with F.S. SS 99.095. Law requires that a candidate must also file the following: Form 1 Statement of Financial Interests, Loyalty Oath and Oath of Candidate (Form DS-DE 25 for Non Partisan Office), pay Assessment fee, Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository (Form DS-DE 9) and Statement of Candidate (Form DS-DE 84), unless you have already filed these forms.
