The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
Must be a city resident continuously for at least six (6) months immediately prior to the first day of the qualification period for office and be a qualified elector.
Filing Requirements
File a sworn qualification statement with the name, occupation, and address of the candidate, that says what office they are running for, that confirms they are a qualified elector of the city, and that they will be willing to serve if elected. Law requires that a candidate must also file the following: Form 1 Statement of Financial Interests, Loyalty Oath and Oath of Candidate (Form DS-DE 25 for Non-Partisan Office), Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository (Form DS-DE 9) and Statement of Candidate (Form DS-DE 84), unless you have already filed these forms.
