The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
Must have been a resident of the city for 12 months prior to the date of election and be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections of this city. Each shall continue to reside in the city during that person's period of service and be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections of this city. No person shall be eligible to qualify as a candidate for the office of mayor while holding any other elective public office nor while a candidate for nomination or election to any other public office. No person shall be eligible to qualify as a candidate for the office of mayor while indebted to the city for delinquent property taxes, water, sewer, or garbage collection fees, fines, or any other delinquent indebtedness of any kind.
Filing Requirements
Filing Fee: 3% of gross salary from the prior year; petition signature requirement of 1 percent of the total number of registered voters eligible to vote in the last election for the specific office if unable to pay filing fee.
