The City Legislature is the municipality's governing body, responsible for voting on ordinances and policies, and often is in charge of hiring a city manager.
Must have been a resident of the city for 12 months prior to the date of election and be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections of this city. Each shall continue to reside in the city during period of service. Must not be holding any other elective public office nor while a candidate for nomination or election to any other public office. Must not be indebted to the city for delinquent property taxes, water, sewer, or garbage collection fees, fines, or any other delinquent indebtedness of any kind.
Filing Requirements
Filing Fee: 3% of gross salary from the prior year; petition signature requirement of 1 percent of the total number of registered voters eligible to vote in the last election for the specific office if unable to pay filing fee.
