How to run for County Agricultural Extension Council
- Step 1
Meet eligibility requirements
As a qualified voter in the County Extension district, you are eligible to be a candidate for county extension council. To qualify as a candidate, you will need to obtain twenty-five (25) signatures on a nominating petition, from the county auditor's office. We would urge you to obtain a few additional signatures, but 30 or 35 will be sufficient. When the petition has been completed, you will need to return it to the county auditor's office and sign an affidavit at that time. The petition must be filed at the auditor's office.
- Step 2
File for office
- Filing requirements
- Each candidate must file an affidavit of candidacy and nomination petitions or convention certificate with the county auditor for county offices or the Secretary of State's Office for federal and state offices. The affidavit of candidacy and nomination petitions or convention certificate must be filed together or they will be rejected. Township officials only file an affidavit of candidacy. Signatures Needed: For County Supervisors in Plan 1 and 2 Counties: At least 250 or 1% of registered voters in the county as of July 1 of previous year, whichever is less. Plan 3 Counties: At least 150 or 1% of registered voters in the supervisor district as of July 1 of previous year, whichever is less. County Auditor and the County Sheriff need at least 250 or 1% of registered voters in the county as of July 1 of previous year, whichever is less. There are no signature requirements for the Township Trustee position. The County Hospital Trustee needs 50 signatures from the county. The Soil and Water Conservation Board needs 25 from the conservation district. The Agricultural Extension Council needs 25 signatures from the extension district.
