The County Board is the elected body that sets county policy, ordinances and budget appropriations for programs. Every ten years Illinois statute requires one election to fill all Board positions and staggering occurs through a random drawing for two or four year terms. Chairmen are elected by the board and conduct meetings, hold meetings at prescribed times, and publish a report of each meeting
Candidate must be a registered voter and a resident of the county for at least one year next preceding the election.
Filing Requirements
No filing fee; Signature requirement 0.5% of the qualified electors of their party who cast votes at the last preceding general election in their county. Independent candidates: Not less than 5% nor more than 8% (or 50 more than the minimum, whichever is greater), signed by qualified voters of the county, of the total number of persons who voted at the last General Election in the county.
