The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. They often preside over council meetings and may have the power to hire and fire heads of municipal departments.
Candidate must be registered to vote in the city of the office sought. Must have resided in the city for at least one (1) year prior to the date of taking office. Cannot be convicted and sentenced of, nor have plead guilty or nolo contendere to any felony charges (unless it has been pardoned, reversed, vacated, set aside, the guilty plea unaccepted by jury, or expunged under state law). Cannot be an active-service member of the US armed forces.
Filing Requirements
No filing fee. No signature requirement for Democratic, Republican, or Libertarian Candidates. However, candidate must file a declaration of candidacy and statement of economic interest (CAN-12) with the county election board. For Independent and minor party candidates signature requirement is 2% of the total votes cast for secretary of state at the last election held for that office in the district the candidate seeks to represent.
